The word “new” will be used often during Rally for Relay on Thursday, Sept. 11, at 5:30 p.m. in the Russellville Chamber of Commerce meeting.

At that time, a number of changes will be announced for the local 2015 Relay for Life event, said Leigh Ann Veach, co-chair of the 2015 event.

Relay for Life is the signature fundraising event for the American Cancer Society and Rally for Relay is a time for anyone in the community who wants more information about Relay for Life, anyone who is looking for a way to get involved in the event, and all those team captains and team members that have participated in the local event in the past to learn details about next spring’s event.

“During the 2014 Relay I heard suggestions from lots of team captains about changes they would like to see with our Relay,” Veach said. The changes that will be announced Sept. 11 are a direct result of some of those suggestions.

“The Planning Committee has listened to those suggestions and we have so many new and exciting changes to announce during Rally for Relay,” she added.

Those changes include a new date, new times and a new location, in addition to a new name for the local event.

Beginning with the 2015 Relay, the Pope and Yell County Relay for Life will be known as the River Valley Relay for Life.

“We really want to make Relay for Life more of a community event,” Veach said. “This new name reflects our desire and our commitment to have a more unified effort among all the communities in the two counties,” she said. “The new name is just one of many ways we are revamping our local Relay.”

Changes in the time, location and date will be revealed at Rally for Relay, in addition to the announcement naming Veach’s co-chair for the 2015 Relay for Life.

“We are excited about these changes and we think those who have been involved in Relay in the past will be excited about the changes too,” Veach said.

Also at Rally for Relay the theme for the 2015 event will be chosen. Veach said the Planning Committee has four possible themes chosen and those attending the Rally for Relay will vote and make the final decision on the theme for the event.
