After dinner and activities we will retire into the visitor center to “sleep with the fish”.

Russellville Project Office Defers Shoreline Activity Requests until Oct. 1

Russellville Project Office Defers Shoreline Activity Requests until Oct. 1

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - As a result of budget constraints the Army Corps of Engineers Russellville Project Office will defer all new requests for shoreline use until Oct. 1 allowing the Corps to shift its resources to address park visitor assistance during the summer recreation season.

Shoreline use requests include fire protection (mowing/underbrushing) and footpath permits, private or community boat dock requests, and requests for modification to an existing boat dock.  As in 2012, these requests will be addressed in the order they were received starting Oct. 1.

Permit holders are reminded that the terms and conditions of their permits will still be enforced and all zoning criteria and shoreline management regulations remain in effect.

For more information, please contact Robert Ahlert at 501-340-1740 or the Russellville Project Office at 479-968-5008, ext. 9.

Dardanelle lock to close for maintenance

Dardanelle lock to close for maintenance

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - From 1 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27 through Sep. 3, the Army Corps of Engineers will close Dardanelle lock on the Arkansas River so workers can "dewater" it and perform scheduled maintenance and inspections.

Dardanelle Lock is located at Russellville.

Because no vessels will be allowed to lock through during this seven-day period, officials at the Corps' Little Rock district advise commercial shippers and pleasure boaters to plan accordingly.

The officials say that while this scheduled closure can inconvenience boaters and commercial shippers, it is preferable to a breakdown that can result in long, unscheduled lock closures.

During a dewatering, temporary dams are installed outside each lock gate.  The water in the lock is drained to allow access to areas normally under water.  Workers inspect the lock and repair worn or damaged parts.
