Arkansas Tech fall commencement set for Saturday Dec. 18

Approximately 500 Arkansas Tech University students will receive their degrees during fall commencement ceremonies at John E. Tucker Coliseum in Russellville on Saturday, Dec. 18.

Graduates from the College of Applied Science, the College of Business, the College of Natural and Health Sciences, the College of Professional Studies and Community Outreach and all students earning an associate's degree will participate in a 10 a.m. commencement ceremony.

The 2 p.m. ceremony will feature graduates from the College of Arts and Humanities, the College of Education and the Graduate College.

Winter at the lake is being celebrated on Dec. 11.

Art students recognized for graphic design cover

Three Arkansas Tech University students were rewarded on Tuesday, Dec. 7, for lending their graphic design talents to an important project for Arkansas Tech University.

Junior Vanessa Williams of Lawrence, Kan., sophomore Katelyn Ferguson of Alma and senior James Ruiz of Los Angeles, Calif. were honored for producing the top three potential cover designs for the Arkansas Tech University self-study for The Higher Learning Commission.

The self-study is part of a process that the university goes through every 10 years in order to maintain its accreditation with the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.


Adult Mixed Volleyball League Registration

Registration for the adult mixed volleyball league will begin on Monday, January 3 and continue through 5:00 p.m., Friday, January 14.  The entry fee will be $250.00.  Teams must turn in a league entry form and entry fee while registering.  The necessary forms are available at the Russellville Recreation and Parks Department office or may be downloaded from our website at www.eteamz.com/rsvlparksdepartment  For more information, call 968-1272, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Helicopter mural to be featured in Veteran's Day parade

This is the mural featuring a Chinook helicopter. It will be for the Russellville Veteran's Day parade and the ceremony to follow at 5 p.m.

19th Annual Downtown Fall Festival & Chili Cookoff

This old-fashioned street festival takes place in Russellville's Downtown Historic District. Start the day with the omelet breakfast to prepare for the days' activities that include a sanctioned chili cook-off, car show, 5K, bike ride, arts & crafts, old-fashioned pie contest, farmers market, live music, and lots of great food.

"Run for Literacy"

Start time 8:30 a.m. at the Bona Dea Trail and the race is a Fun Run and Walk. 10 years and younger Free; 11-15 years old $15; 18 years and up $20; Family $45; $5 extra charge for day of registration. All proceeds benefit the River Valley Literacy Councils.
