My Town Hero nominee: Linsey Heimer

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (KTHV) – Linsey Heimer has been nominated for the honor of My Town Hero by Kayla Ernest.

Ernest said Heimer devotes her life to saving stray and abandoned dogs in the Dardanelle and Russellville area. She said Heimer is constantly busy saving, fostering, vetting, and rescuing from the surrounding shelters before the dogs are euthanized.

“She is responsible for making sure the animals are spayed or neutered and have had a complete health check and certification before they are transported to a rescue in or around surrounding states,” Ernest said.

Heimer raises funds for all of this through donations on Facebook and shares the animals’ stories from beginning to end.

Arkansas Tech to welcome its campus ambassador back home

Arkansas Tech to welcome its campus ambassador back home

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (Arkansas Tech)--Arkansas Tech University will host a ceremony to welcome home its campus ambassador, Jerry the Bulldog, on Saturday, Oct. 26.

The ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. on Centennial Plaza, which is located outside Thone Stadium at Buerkle Field.

Jerry was adopted as campus ambassador by a unanimous vote of the Arkansas Tech Student Government Association on Wednesday, Oct. 23. The campus ambassador designation restores an Arkansas Tech tradition that had been lost since the passing of the original Jerry in 1937.

The re-introduction of Jerry does not affect the nicknames for the Arkansas Tech athletics teams, which will continue to be known as the Wonder Boys and the Golden Suns.
