Former College Republican Chair Skot Covert Elected National CRNC Co-Chair

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Franklin County native and Arkansas Tech graduate Skot Covert has been elected Co-Chairman of the College Republican National Committee (CRNC). Covert’s election came on June 15, 2013. He was elected Co-Chairman of the CRNC at the organization’s convention in Washington, D.C.

State Representative Bill Gossage, who represents District 82, said: “Skot has been a tireless worker for Republican candidates since 2006. In his role as Chair for the Arkansas College Republicans, he oversaw a record increase in membership. Skot has great political instincts and is a great asset to the Republican team.”

Lieutenant Governor Mark Darr added: “I have personally observed Skot's diligent work ethic first hand. In 2010, Skot was one of two staffers on my Lieutenant Governor campaign. Since then, he has assisted the Lieutenant Governor's office during the 2011 and 2012 legislative sessions. I have the utmost respect for Skot, and wish him well with his new position.”

Doyle Webb, Chairman of the Republican Party of Arkansas, said that Covert’s election represents a success for both Covert and for Republicans in Arkansas: “We are proud of Skot’s election as CRNC Co-Chairman. He is not only talented, but also has a bright future ahead of him. It is also very positive for Arkansas to have one of our own helping guide and direct such an important political organization in our nation’s capital.”

Covert, a native of Ozark, graduated Ozark high School in 2008. He later attended Arkansas Tech University and earned a degree in Emergency Administration and Management in 2012.

Covert has been active in Republican politics since high school. He joined the College Republicans shortly after entering college and became the leader of the Arkansas Tech CR chapter in 2010. That same year, Covert was one of two campaign aides that helped guide the campaign of Lt. Governor Mark Darr.

In 2011, Covert was elected Chairman of the Arkansas Federation of College Republicans. The next year, he was elected Vice-Chairman of the CRNC.

Covert was also the campaign manager for the successful election of State Rep. Bill Gossage in 2012. He will begin graduate studies at Penn State University for Meteorology in the fall of 2013.
