1:30pm – What’s for Lunch? –We have 8,000 gallons of aquariums, filled with many of the fish species found in Lake Dardanelle. Join park staff, as they feed the fish live food. See for yourself, what’s for lunch?

 

Friday, October 5th

7p.m. – Masters of the Night – Bat populations are in decline due to misinformation and fear. Meet a park interpreter on the Dardanelle side of the park in the grassy area near the playground to discover the bat myths that have given them a bad reputation and learn about which bats you can find here at Lake Dardanelle State Park. Please bring a flashlight and don’t forget your insect repellant.

Petit Jean State Park invites you  to take part in connecting children to the natural world as part of a nationwide effort geared to getting young people off the couch, unplugged from technology, and enjoying the outdoors in their local community.

 

Take a Child Outside” week is a program which urges all citizens to participate in outdoor activities from September 24-30, 2012.  Take A Child Outside week is designed to help break down obstacles that keep children from discovering the natural world, and to arm parents, teachers and other caregivers with resources and recreational activities for exploring local habitats.

Sunday, September 16th

10 a.m. –Fire in the Forest– Exploring nature is one of the best ways to discover how everything is connected.  There are many human and nature induced causes of change in any given area. Fire is just one of these; it usually gets a bad rap. Join a park interpreter at the amphitheater and learn how fire can be beneficial to an area. How this tool is used to improve your visits to our park.

 

3 p.m. – Know your State– How well do you know the history and folklore of Arkansas?  Join a park interpreter in the grassy area across from the visitor center for this fun quiz game where teams will compete for prizes.  All ages welcome!

Lake Dardanelle State Park to Host Outdoor Skills Workshop

Do you think you could survive in the wild?  Come test your outdoor skills and learn some new ones!  We want to encourage people to get out and enjoy all that this great state has to offer. By giving them the knowledge to have a safe enjoyable experience, we hope that more people will get out. This workshop will include backpacking tips, knot tying instructions, fishing techniques, and much more.  The workshop will be held September 22, 2012 it is open to ages 8 and up, we encourage family groups. Participants will meet at the visitor center at 9am and will be done at 4pm.  Lunch, snacks, and all materials will be included in the $40 registration fee. Pre-registration for this workshop is required. Participants must be registered no later than September 15th. You may pick up a registration form at the Lake Dardanelle State Park Visitor Center, or have it e-mailed/faxed by using the information below.

Arkansas Tech Spreads School Spirit

Arkansas Tech University students packed Thone Stadium Tuesday night for a back to school pep rally prior to the annual Green and Gold scrimmage.

This marks the third year for the pep rally, and organizers say it is designed to introduce new students to Arkansas Tech's game day traditions and help everyone get excited about Arkansas Tech athletics.

As part of the pep rally, the Arkansas Tech Cheerleaders, the Arkansas Tech Golden Girls dance team and the Arkansas Tech Band of Distinction were on hand to help spread Tech spirit.

Representatives of the Golden Suns volleyball team also reminded fans of the opportunity to enjoy matches at Tucker Coliseum.

The Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys will open their season at Thone Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 1, when they face Bacone College.  Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.

Saturdays at 1:45p.m. – Critter Crunch – Lake Dardanelle’s diverse habitats provide homes for many creatures large and small. Join a park interpreter in the kid’s corner of the visitor center as she tells you about some of the smaller creatures. She will also be feeding these creatures; so come discover the small native wonders we have around us.
