Arkansas Tech's Bean Earns Statewide Honor

Dr. Linda Bean, associate professor of business at Arkansas Tech University, has earned the 2012 Arkansas Business Education Association (ABEA) teacher of the year award in the outstanding leadership category.
 
She received the honor during the 2012 ABEA Convention July 24-25 in Hot Springs.
 
Bean holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Arkansas Tech. She went on to earn a Master of Science degree from the University of Central Arkansas and a Doctor of Education degree from Oklahoma State University.

She returned to her alma mater to serve on the Tech faculty in 2000. She received a 2007 Arkansas Tech Faculty Award of Excellence in the teaching category and a 2009 Arkansas Tech Faculty Award of Excellence in the service category. Bean was president of the Arkansas Tech Faculty Senate in 2010-11.

Simmons announces stock repurchase program

PINE BLUFF, Ark. -- J. Thomas May, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Simmons First National Corporation (NASDAQ-GS: SFNC), has announced the substantial completion of the existing stock repurchase program and the adoption by the Board of Directors of a new stock repurchase program. The new program authorizes the repurchase of up to 850,000 shares of Class A common stock or approximately 5 percent of the shares outstanding. The shares are to be purchased from time to time at prevailing market prices, through open market or unsolicited negotiated transactions, depending upon market conditions.

Under the repurchase program, there is no time limit for the stock repurchases, nor is there a minimum number of shares that the Company intends to repurchase. The Company may discontinue purchases at any time that management determines additional purchases are not warranted.

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark.---The Russellville Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the 2012 River Valley Business Expo on Wednesday, Aug. 8. The event will be held on the Arkansas Tech University campus at Tucker Coliseum from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Exhibitors will be incorporating the theme “Together the Sky is the Limit” into their booths. There will be more than 90 different local businesses exhibited at the expo. Admission is free and open to the general public. Last year, more than 3,500 people attended the event and the chamber is hoping for even more this year. Anyone interested is encouraged to come by, look around, shop, and visit with exhibitors.

Arkansas Tech SIFE wins regional title

Arkansas Tech University has earned a regional championship in Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) competition for a second consecutive year.

The Arkansas Tech SIFE team was named a 2012 regional champion at the SIFE USA Regional Competition in Dallas, Texas, on Friday, April 13. It is Arkansas Tech’s sixth SIFE regional title since 2003.

SIFE is an international non-profit organization that engages students on 1,500 college campuses around the world in projects that, according to the organization, "create a better, more sustainable world through the positive power of business."

This year marks the fourth time in the last five years that Arkansas Tech has earned a SIFE regional title.

Arkansas Tech's SIFE team won the championship based on a presentation concerning its public service projects throughout the current academic year.

Downtown Network Training set for March 20 in Pine Bluff

LITTLE ROCK, AR—Main Street Arkansas will host a training session for Arkansas Downtown Network towns, featuring Randy Wilson of Community Design Solutions, in Pine Bluff on Tuesday, March 20, Main Street Arkansas Director Cary Tyson announced today. Main Street Arkansas is a program area of the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program.

The training will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center at 211 W. Third St. in Pine Bluff. It will feature discussions on principles of good design, design as an agent for community change, mid-century alterations to historic buildings, and a “Walk and Learn” tour around downtown.
